Fort Gordon's Gate 2 is set to reopen Tuesday.

It would be nice if they said

It would be nice if they said wether or not gate 5 will be closed. There is a difference between being delayed and not being able to go that way at all.

Why mess with Gate 5? It

Why mess with Gate 5? It seemed to be operating quite well. Or am I missing something? Extra money available?
I doubt that they will close it - no other access on that side that I know of. And the grass should be the least of our worries, right?

It's not the Army's

It's not the Army's incompetence, it's the COMMANDER IN CHIEF's incompetence. The idiot can't even pick out a dog for his family, let alone run the military. Change is coming in 2010 and 2012!

LouLou - Gate 1 is already

LouLou - Gate 1 is already taken care of - look at the lay out and you'll see what I mean.
And - "humble" I seriously doubt that Obama knows where Fort Gordon is if you were to put a map in front of him. They have many malfunctioning dignitaries that figure out all this idiotic stuff. Pave the darn roads, yeah - that would be money well spent.

Gate 2 was never closed -

Gate 2 was never closed - traffic came and went without too many problems. For the first few hours in the morning, the traffic was one way - into post only. After that, the traffic was two way until rush hour when it was one way off post. It was only a mere inconvenience. However, I am glad the work is finished at Gate 2.

Let's not blame the

Let's not blame the President, please. He doesn't decide what traffic-based changes happen on a base (the mention of choosing a dog is just silly). Odds are the Fort had additional funding for overhauls such as this and needed to spend the money. Whatever you don't spend is taken back by the Federal Government and considered in your next year's budget. ie. if you are allocated 80 million but only spend 60 million, odds are your next year's budget will be reduced.

So what does that have to do

So what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Fact is there was not really a valid need to spend MILLIONS on son=mething that has no real benefit to the base populus. This is wasted money, the gate 2 is not even opened up yet and there is no work being completed on it. Lights are on wasting electricity if it is not done then stop wasting yet more money. Gate 3 yes they needed a gate to replace the one that really did not exist. I can think of roads or better yet units with plubming issues, and other items that the money could have been better used on. There is nothing wrong with Gate 1 and the correct someone, they are planning on screwing it up as well.

As mentioned before - miles

As mentioned before - miles and miles of roads inside the Fort are begging to be paved - do it - before they take the money back.

Where are Gates 2 and 3? Is

Where are Gates 2 and 3? Is one gate where the old science center was and one the gate across from the road that leads to Grovetown? Which is numbered which? Gate 1 is the one that most people take to get to Eisenhower Hospital, but I never did know which gates 2 and 3 were. Gate 5 is near the intersection of Tobacco Road and Deans Bridge Road (Hwy 1) (Tobacco road goes right up to Gate 5). Will Gate 5 be closed under this plan or will traffic just be even slower?

I hope you realize that there

I hope you realize that there isn't just one big bank account from which the Fort's engineers draw their funding. Each of these projects is studied and approved (usually) years ahead of the actual work being done. The engineers base their decisions on the expected needs, not necessarily the actual needs. Repaving and such would be funded from a different allocation of monies.
