Gordon Highway litter cleanup scheduled for Oct. 24

The next Gordon Highway litter cleanup has been rescheduled for Oct. 24, Greater Augusta Progress Chairman and Empire Truck & Tractor owner Henry Frischknecht said today.

Volunteers will meet at 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Southgate Shopping Center.

A previously announced November date won’t work, Mr. Frischknecht said, because of a scheduling conflict with the Fort Gordon Youth Challenge Academy, which sent 200 people to the last cleanup in June.

Between 300 and 400 volunteers turned out for that effort, he said, which removed roadway trash and illegal signs along 12 miles of Gordon Highway. The next cleanup will also cover Deans Bridge Road.
