The Augusta Branch NAACP took home three awards last week for contributing to social justice and economic development and for holding a golf tournament.
The awards were given at the 67th annual Georgia State Conference Centennial Convention, held during the week in Warner Robins, according to a news release from the organization.
The branch is the third-largest in Georgia, with 370 active members, according to the organization.
The Augusta branch won the J.L. Barnes Award for outstanding contributions to social justice, the Earl T. Shinholster Economic Development Award for outstanding projects and programs to aid the branchs economic development initiative in Augusta, and the William J. Breeding Sr. Golf Tournament Award for holding the annual scholarship event at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta during the 2008 state convention.
Delegates to the conference were Charles Smith, branch president; Queenie Lawton, education chairwoman; Viola Elam, life membership chairwoman; Liz Wilhite, finance chairwoman and treasurer; Fredericka Cato, secretary; and Dr. Glossine Patten, third vice president
Congrats
Maybe they should be given Nobel Prizes also.
Another joke................
what were the awards for and who presented them? This peculiar article lacks information. Shouldn't we know why the local chapter is being recognized?
"whipping post"... if you would read the article .. it clearly says ... ".... took home three awards last week for contributing to social justice and economic development and for holding a golf tournament.
55, especially for a golf tournament.
Just like president Obama, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Trying to promote economic development is always a positive thing.Congratulations Ladies and Gents!!!!
i'd feel a lot better about their awards if they wouldn't rush to defend every loser and gang member thug convicted, or, excuse me, "wrongly convicted" for robbing a store, or running from the law.
I did not know that they Rushed to defend every loser and gang member thug? If so, they truly are for all races because the thugs you described crosses all racial lines. Idiot.
true, ispy4u, the thugs come from all racial groups. problem is, your naacp only goes to bat for their on kind! so, now, you tell me, who's the racist bigots, now? i appreciate you making my point for me. of course, i'm sure you'll be able to reason some way that by them acting this way, their not really racists, but, rather, i am, for simply pointing out the obvious. and, also, thanks for calling me an idiot. i would recipricate with some slander of my own, but, i don't think you're an idiot. just very ignorant.
Minorites have the NAACP, who have been instrumental in changing the social frabric of the nation. Non-minorities have the "system" itself. This award will encourage others to get involved where injustice appears, and hopefully continue to strive for that More Perfect Union.
Yeah, that social frabric, it's really something.
