The number of shootings in the CSRA is absolutely ridiculous. I wonder what this one was all about?

I'll bet most of the

I'll bet most of the shootings are committed with illegal firearms. And to think some people think that banning firearms will stop all of this. If they can't keep the criminals from having them now, they can't keep them from having them then.

If you look at countries that

If you look at countries that have banned guns for more than 20 years (giving enough time for less of them to be around) the statistics show that there are just as many murders per capita by strangulation, blunt force trama and stabbings. Australia has had a marked increase in the crime rate since banning guns because the criminals have them and they know law abiding citizens don't so they don't have to worry about being shot.

guess what - crime is

guess what - crime is everywhere. it's spreading and when they're done robbing you and yours, they're going to hit up a new neighborhood. that's how it works, dummies. get over this idea that crime isn't in your area. crime is increasing therefore it's only a matter of time before your neighborhood is hit. get out off this backwoods fairytale and start adjusting to reality - lock your doors, invest in an alarm system/weapon protection (whatever makes yourself feel safe), start paying attn to your neighbors so you can recognize an unfamiliar face, call the police, etc. stop the blame game because it has to do with MONEY. the green tops ethnicity, culture, background more than anything as a determinant of who's robbing who. if you walk around here looking like a simple target, guess what -- you're going to get it. just like that idiot woman who was a victim of the oldest scam in the book. GET A CLUE, PROTECT YOURSELF, AND STOP CRYING.

I'm with devgru - let's

I'm with devgru - let's enforce the 2nd amendment. If you must have a gun, join a well-regulated militia. In modern terms, the National Guard, if you read your Alexander Hamilton. As far as the "Australian evidence" cited, you must be referencing the same website Ahmedinejad uses to bolster his claims that the holocaust never happened. Studies show that more guns lead to more gun crimes and more gun deaths (including a large number of suicides and gun accidents). As for the thinly-veiled racism in the "across the bridge" notes from pizzato and Southern Patriot...the white farmers in Rhodesia had the same attitude. Building walls and turning a blind eye to the problems on the other side of the tracks in Augusta will eventually come back to haunt you. Greg Mortenson has it right, maybe we could use his help here in America as well.

I have, neighbor, and therein

I have, neighbor, and therein lies the problem. Most of my fellow Americans suffering an over-active gun fetish read the second half of the amendment, but ignore the first half, not to mention centuries of English and American common law that defined ideas like "a well-regulated militia" and "bear arms." I agree with you, lots of folks involved in the gun debate need to read and study...
