The Rev. Andrew Trapp, an Aiken native, won $100,000 in Fox's PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge, which aired today on WFXG-TV (Channel 54).

The Rev. Trapp says he is donating the money for the renovation of his parish, St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City, S.C.

The 28-year-old priest won out against Daniel Negreanu, the show's host, and former NBA player John Salley on the show, which was taped in Los Angeles earlier this month. His victory entitles him to compete for a prize of $1 million later this year.

"Thank you, Lord," he said after winning the $100,000 prize.

The Rev. Trapp, who was ordained in 2007, said he began playing poker with his parents as a child and honed his skills in Texas Hold ’Em while studying in seminary in Ohio.

He was one of only 21 contestants chosen out of 10,000 who competed in preliminary online tournaments, he said.

Priests do not take a vow of

Priests do not take a vow of poverty like nuns do. They only take vows of chastity and obedience.
