A 17-year-old Augusta man was sentenced to five years in prison followed by 10 years on probation Friday for child molestation.

The charges against Anthony M. Nix has been pending nearly four years in Richmond County Superior Court. He was a juvenile when a 9-year-old boy told a relative that Mr. Nix had threatened to hurt him unless he engaged in sexual contact.

Mr. Nix pleaded guilty to a single count of child molestation.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think it is legal to publish the names of juvenile offenders. Since they have released his name, that means he has been tried as an adult, so he shouldn't be getting out at 18.

"A 17-year-old Augusta

"A 17-year-old Augusta man..." Yeah, right, that sicko creep isn't a "man". Not then, not now, but he'll soon learn to be a female......

Ruin his life for something

Ruin his life for something he did at 13? It was a sad thing that happened, but he didn't teach himself. He should've been punished four years ago and it been done by now.

He was 13 and THREATENED A

He was 13 and THREATENED A NINE YEAR OLD. Did you do that when you were 13? Do you know anyone else that has done that? Do normal people, of any age, threaten to hurt people if they don't have sex with them? Do normal teenagers want to have sex with 9 year olds? And he PLED GUILTY. By all means, lock him up.

It doesn't matter if he is 17

It doesn't matter if he is 17 or 13. He should have known better, known right from wrong. I agree he should have been punished when it four years ago, but I believe five years is not long enough time for someone that molests a child.

he'll probably follow up with

he'll probably follow up with an appeal as it appears they've charged and sentenced him as an adult, whereas you have to be charged/sentenced based upon what's age appropriate at the time the crime was committed, not when the trial finally came about...
