The owner of an Augusta business pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to filing false tax returns.
Mark W. Taylor, 50, of North Augusta pleaded guilty to two counts, admitting he under-reported income from his business, Marks Truck Sales, in 2003 and 2004. He faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and $250,000.
IRS Special Agent David Houk testified that an anonymous tip about Mr. Taylors home valued at nearly a million dollars and his reported income of less than $60,000 for the 2002 and 2003 tax years started the investigation. Mr. Marks real income for those years was more than $223,000 and $120,000.
Mr. Taylor is free on bond. A sentencing date has not been set.
Who says the government is not efficient?
Three yrs is the max?! For stealing over two hundred thousand dollars, thats the possible jail time. Think thats a good number for stealing? Great country, eh? He will get probabtion.
Justus go back and read the article. He did not seal $250K, he faces a maximum penalty of $250K. He is being changed with claiming income of $60K whereas his actual income was $223K and $120K. A fair estimate would be he owed the IRS around $20K. Now if he were Charlie Rangel he could just ignore the IRS and his Liberal buddies would give him a pass. Of course this does make him qualified for one of Obama's Cabinet or Czar postions.
hey just, you are truly a democrat (brain dead). Obviously you pay no taxes.
urban,you are a republican (anal retentive)everything is not about politics.
justus4 = hypocrite.
You know why Justus says what he does. And it wasn't an anonymous tip. It's always a relative, exspouse, exgirlfriend, or exemployee.
Corgimon I agree, it had to be someone close to him to have that information and I put my money on an ex.
