Evans High School senior Kevin Oskar Zettelmeier, 17, died sometime early Wednesday morning, said Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.
Mr. Zettelmeiers grandparents went into his bedroom at their Rachel Drive home to wake him up for school and found him unresponsive, said Mr. Collins, who pronounced the teen dead at 7:20 a.m.
An autopsy, performed Wednesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Augusta, did not determine why the seemingly-healthy Zettelmeier died.
Until everything comes back, they wont disclose the cause and manner of death, Mr. Collins said. We dont suspect any foul play or drugs in this case. But we dont know until we get these toxicology and lab results back.
Mr. Collins said the results should be available within the next couple of months.
Mr. Zettelmeier did not have any chronic medical conditions except for the occasional bout of seasonal allergies, Mr. Collins said.
A healthy-looking young man with no medical record, Mr. Collins said. An all-around good kid, for whatever reason, we dont know at this point, he died during his sleep.
