Richmond County school officials released video and more information today in the case of a former school safety officer who was fired after authorities say he physically confronted a teen at a Sept. 11 football game. Meanwhile, the former officer, James Holmon, has filed a request to appeal his job loss.

“The representative of the employee has submitted a request for a (Richmond County School) board hearing,” said schools Superintendent Dana Bedden at a news conference today, noting that the representative was provided through the

Georgia Association of Educators. Officials learned of the appeal Thursday, and a date hasn't been set for a hearing, Dr. Bedden said.

Among information released today in the case was the personnel file of former officer James Holmon, showing he had two prior incidents, one he was cleared of and one he was reprimanded on.

Dr. Bedden said the incident of reprimand didn't rise to the level of the Sept. 11 incident in which Mr. Holmon was accused of throwing a 14-year-old student to the ground, placing his hands around his neck and telling him several times “I will kill you.” Dr. Bedden said today that the Sept. 11 incident began when Mr. Holmon was clearing the Academy of Richmond County stadium once a football game between ARC and Josey highs had ended. He said the officer then had a verbal exchange with a teen, who made an inappropriate comment.

Dr. Bedden said the actions of the teen, whose name isn't being released because of his age, will be handled by his school, but the superintendent did say the students comments were inappropriate and should be addressed.

“It is unacceptable, but also, two wrongs don't make a right,” he said of the officer's response to the comments.

The teen reportedly responded to Mr. Holmon with a curse word, asking to whom he was talking, and told the officer that he would punch him in the face. The teen later said he didn't remember saying he would punch the officer and that he cursed only after being held by the neck. Mr. Holmon, however, said in his termination letter that the teen said he didn't have to leave and used a curse word. Mr. Holmon said he then put his hand on the teen's shoulder and that the teen began to ball up his hand in a fist "as if he was going to hit me. ... That's when I punched him away from me and he went to the ground, and I went down with him and restrained him by his lower neck area."

The name of the teen's school wasn't available at today's conference.

Dr. Bedden called the Sept. 11 situation “an isolated incident” that shouldn't speak for the entire school safety department. Based on his tenure and others he's spoken to, Dr. Bedden said he knows of no other similar incident involving a school safety officer.

I thought the policy was for

I thought the policy was for all releases to be cleared through Chiquita Johnson? Did she clear this? I find it marginal that what the officer did was enough to make him lose his job. He seemed competent working in a difficult environment. Maybe someone can look at his firing again with some understanding.

Yes, the officer over

Yes, the officer over reacted, had it not been for the I'll kill you statement, I'd be behind him 100%. This little punk has problems and no respect, seems to run in the family, probably why he was in foster care. Obviously the guardian knows this young man well enough not to seek anything outside of administrative punishment for the officer, because she knows his violent disrespectful attitude, but noooo daddy who has anger and drug problems himself and couldn't raise his own kid now wants to get paid. Sickening!! The kid has no respect and is proven to be a liar and though the officer was in the wrong to a point, the daddy seeking a civil suit is doing nothing but showing him once again its ok to have no respect whatsoever and get paid for being a punk.

after seeing the video, had

after seeing the video, had it not been for the ill kill you comment, the punk got what he deserved. If you are going to threaten to injure someone you better be prepared to accept the consequences. Thse punks run their mouths because they think they are untouchable as a kid. If the officer hadn't taken him down and let him go, he would be off bragging looking like a big man to his friends for threatening an officer and getting away with it. After the incident he was knocked off his high horse, something a lot of these young punks need IMO. Maybe he would have learned a lesson but thanks tot he ill kill you and the support of his dad which I'm sure didn't say a word to the kid about his actions towards the cop and now he thinks hes going to get paid, the kid probably didn't learn anything. sounds like this kid needs to stay in foster care with someone who can teach him respect and right from wrong, evidently that isn't daddy!

The officer created the

The officer created the atmosphere with the way he was speaking to the students. He has no boundries. He has had two other incidents with no consequences. Just like a child, if not reprimanded, you continue to push the envelope. Too bad a parent didn't step in and show the officer how to dance with an adult.

"Inapproriate comment?" The kid committed Terroristic Threats and Acts--a felony! Unless you have worked one of those games, you have no idea how stressful it is. Was the cop right? No. Should he have been fired? Probably. Should the thuglet (kid) be charged? Absolutely!

First of all: Amgibson,

First of all: Amgibson, Takestand and jamesi, all of you idiots always had negative things to say..Keep your negative unconstructive comments to your ignorant selves..

Second: That angry Ex police need to fine another line of work...When you are dealing with kids you have to have a level head or you can elevate the situation to a level where it don't need to go..

Third: Young people learn how to respect authority, and have some respect for yourselves also...Parents it starts at home..

TrueVoice, Holmon was issued a reprimand in the second incident. That is a consequence, even if you in your wisdom don't consider it to be sufficient.

Some hero, his family should

Some hero, his family should sue the board. Naturally an over grown man doing this to a 14 year old BOY, some man he is and yes you are not his daddy so take you hands off him. He followed this 14 year old BOY mouthing and mouthing off to him (in my opinion instigating), he should have just kept saying go home everybody clear the stadium, get in your cars and go. But OMG WAIT *STOPS* Those two WHITE people were vocal about what they had just saw and spoke up OMG not a black officer on a BLACK 14 year old boy with WHITE people speaking out against what the officer did OMG... not in Richmond County.

jackfruitcake, you mean the

jackfruitcake, you mean the mother who he never has contact with and the father who has an anger and drug problem and thats why this boy is in foster care and has no respect for himself or anyone else, should get paid? He's in foster care because his parents can't and/or won't take care of him properly and you think they should get paid? Thats some of the ignorant mentality most of these young punks are raised with thats why they turn out so bad, then they have people making excuses for them and wanting them to get paid for acting out. Some even search out lawsuits. Not one word about about the boys actions, but you think the parents who do not care for him and I highly doubt they pay child support, should get paid. Sickening and ignorant!!

Also, this black on black

Also, this black on black incident with outraged white people put a damper on your racist usual comments. Ut oh, somethings not stirred in the kool aid!! Don't have a whole lot to say now do you, excpet get paid. why get paid, why not just the appropriate punishment for the officer and hope the boy learned his lesson, one that was obviously needed. He wasn't injured, maybe emarrassed, but he deserved it. What about the charges for his threat? No focus on getting paid at the taxpayers who do raise their kids expense is all you can say... typical.

Review the beginning of the

Review the beginning of the video. The officer's tone is provocative. What, if anything, happened BEFORE the tape began that might explain the officer's trashtalking attitude? He could be a capable peace officer but based on this video, it appears more likely that he's a provoking bully.

Mr. Holman was justly fired.

Mr. Holman was justly fired. All he had to do was place him under arrest for disorderly conduct if he cursed or threatened him. And believe me he could have made it very uncomfortable for him when he placed the handcuffs on him. No one would have ever known. There is a way to respond to a situation like this and that was not the way.
