Repubican Congressman Broun plans Athens town hall meeting

ATHENS, Ga. -- U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, will hold a town hall meeting on health care reform in his hometown after all.

Broun, whose 10th congressional district includes parts of Augusta, announced Thursday he has scheduled two town hall meetings Monday: one at 10 a.m. at the Commerce Civic Center and another at 6 p.m. at the Athens Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2872, 835 Sunset Drive.

"The town halls have been extremely popular, and Dr. Broun was pleased with the feedback he received from his first town hall in Athens, as well as the others he held across the district," spokeswoman Jessica Morris said.

Congressional leaders have not scheduled any votes for Monday, Morris said, freeing up Broun to spend the day in his district.

Some Athens residents criticized Broun for not meeting with constituents in heavily Democratic Athens. The meeting Morris referred to actually was held in Oconee County.

Broun also held town hall meetings in August and September in Evans, Clarkesville, Greensboro and Madison. Several hundred people, almost all opposed to Democratic proposals for health care reform, attended each meeting.

He's not popular in Athens, he should have come back to Columbia County...

GOP is running a secret campaign to kill health care reform. It seems suspicious that every town-hall meetings and Tea Pary Patriots have disseminated the playbook used to instruct the town-hall mobs in the tactics of disruption.

Yesterday, Paul Broun voted against ensuring that Medicare premiums don't increase next year. Fortunately, in a 406 to 18 vote, the bill passed anyway. Depends Packers For Truth, he's all yours.
