Fort Gordon to host festival this weekend

Fort Gordon will host the Ford Trucks Equestrian Balloon Festival this weekend.

The festival will be held from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Barton Field at Fort Gordon.

On both days, 18 hot air balloons will take off from the field at 7 a.m., and guests are invited to walk around the 6- to 7-story balloons before their lift off. The U.S. Army Signal Corp. Band will perform Saturday night as the balloons return.

Polo America, Classic South Equine Association and Horsecity.com will put on the Horse Expo, which will showcase more than 40 horses, Saturday and Sunday.

The event will also include a Mustang car show, carnival, jump houses, balloon rides, pony rides, military displays and food.

Admission is free with a donation to the families of Fort Gordon service men and women.

Attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of the Aiken / Augusta Equestrian Yearbook for supporting the troops.
