Middle school and high school students from Westminster Schools of Augusta participate in See You at the Pole, an annual student-run gathering.

It’s the 20th anniversary of the event, which was started by high school students in Burleson, Texas. Prayer gatherings are now held outside schools in every state and several other countries. The student-run event includes prayer for the school’s leaders, faculty and staff, parents and students.

A gathering at Westminster Schools of Augusta this morning included worship around the flagpole. A See You at the Pole rally tonight at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m.

It is the best school in the CSRA.

Westminster is the only school my grandson attended, he is now a senior at GT, it is a great school and worth the dollars.

So glad to know that there are still students/teachers/parents out there that are keeping God in our schools and not afraid to stand up for our Maker. May God Bless all the children for they are our future. I heard that MANY schools participated in this great event this morning and I'm glad it will continue thru this evening.

Please....I have one child at Davidson (which routinely beats Westminster on standardized tests, despite drawing its enrollment from every demographic) and a child who is a junior at Georgia Tech and still maintains her Hope Scholarship. She graduated from Westside. And it has absolutely NOTHING to do with prayer.

God bless them all... I saw the same thing happening this morning at Augusta Christian as I drove past their school. I know several kids from Augusta Christian and they have impeccable manners and respect for others. I sure wish we had more of this in the public school system.

Hotfoot, you are right that Davidson is an exemplary school. You have your facts backwards however with your claim that Davidson routinely beats Westminster on standardized tests. Last year Davidson's SAT average was 1733 and Westminster's was 1836. I'm not sure what Davidson's 2009 SAT average is but I'm pretty sure that Westminster's is higher again at 1899. This is a 633 average on all three sections. You also should be aware that Westminster's student body represents every demographic as well! It is unfortunate that people have the perception that only those who can afford full tuition attend Westminster. They awarded half a million dollars in financial aid last year to assist families who find the tuition a barrier to being able to attend. Just thought you should have all of the facts.

I think you all are loosing the point of the article. It's not about who can afford private schooling. I have children who attend public school in Edgefield County and we met for prayer this morning as well. Religion may not be part of our curriculum but it is a large part of our lives.

OBX

Hotfoot. Davidson hand picks their students.....I too have a child there and several of her friends did not get in.

Thank you JKJ! You are so right! Who cares if it's a private school or public - the point is that there are still people out there keeping religion at our schools! Don't get me wrong, it's great to see students in ALL schools participating in this event, but to hear the outcome of participates at the public schools was great! It's the public schools that don't have religion in their curriculum.

Taggirl I believe you when you say Westminster represents "every" demographic. But the pictures are all missing one demographic. Can you guess what is missing?n Oh I am sorry, there is a lone example.

jgforteachers

Hotfoot, you might not think that God is in the schools, but as long as there are teachers that are Christians, I can assure you that God is there. I know this for a fact because my husband teaches in Richmond County and he prays for his students every day, unfortunately he has to pray for them silently.

Dixieman

Westminster does have all demographics. If you don't believe me, take your kid over there and apply and you will get a very warm and Christian reception and encouragement.
