Aiken County authorities are searching for suspects who have broken into an Aiken County business four times this month.
On Sept. 1, man broke into the Aiken Electric CO-OP in the 400 block of Carolina Bay Trail in Monetta, S.C., and took high and low side switching gears, which is more than 150 feet of copper wiring, Aiken County sheriffs Sgt. Dave Myers said in an e-mail. The suspect also cut the fence at the facility, Sgt. Myers said. The theft and damage will cost business more than $2,500.
Aiken Electric CO-OPs owner also reported three other incidents that mirror the theft on Sept. 1. The total damage and theft during those incidents will cost the company close to $10,000. If the thefts continue, the business owner told police the sub station in Monetta would have to be shut down, affecting thousands of Aiken County residents.
Anyone with information about these incidents can contact the Aiken County Sheriffs Office at 1 (800) 922-9709 or 1 (888) CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a reward between $50 and $100.
