A man was arrested tonight and charged in a fatal shooting and armed robbery at a south Augusta convenience store Thursday night.

Joseph Andrew Thomas, 23, of the 100 block of Calvary Drive, is charged with murder, armed robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Richmond County jail records.

Robert Lee Stone Jr. was shot to death in the parking lot of the Circle K at 1501 Gordon Highway about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Mr. Thomas is also charged with the armed robbery of a cable installation man in the 2100 block of Second Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, just hours before the murder took place, Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Scott Peebles said.

Lt. Peebles said Mr. Thomas was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after he was spotted on Haynie Drive. He attempted to flee, but was apprehended after a short pursuit on foot.

Mr. Thomas is being held without bond at the Richmond County jail.

[filtered word] What do you think the chances are that he either voted for or supported Obama? 95% chance?

A huge thumbs up to our local law enforcement personnel. They stay with it until they catch the criminals and have put another killer behind bars tonight. Let us hope he will be kept there for the rest of his life. A big thank you to all involved!

Come on AC. My post was not at all in violation. A true statement it was......

not suprised what does the president and this young thug have in common? I mean really, the fact that obama is half black? Is he really the blame for every crime that happens in the csra? I think you rednecks have entirely to much time on your hands. Quit procreating with your children, neices and cousins and accept the fact that the very ones your ancestors kidnapped from africa to enslave for years are sitting in that very same beautiful white house we built. I mean really do get over it!
