More than $689,000 has been awarded to Augusta State University for two energy conservation projects under the State Facilities Retrofit Program.
The funding is being provided by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority through the American Recovery and Investment Act.
One project involves replacing incandescent bulbs in the marquee at Christenberry Field House with an LED sign. The project will cost about $89,500, according to Fred Ricketson, campus architect in ASUs Physical Plant.
The $600,000 for the second project will allow the university to replace outdated air conditioning units in Galloway Hall with newer, more energy efficient units.
The funding for the projects is a part of $27.3 million provided to the University System of Georgia for 71 energy conservation projects at 25 colleges and universities.
