SC Gov. Sanford continues road trip, fight to stay

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford continues his journey around the state speaking with civic groups as he builds the case for staying in office and not heeding calls to resign.

Sanford plans to talk to the Greater Anderson Rotary Club on Thursday.

On Wednesday, 61 members of the House Republican Caucus called for Sanford to step down. A day earlier Republican House Speaker Bobby Harrell of Charleston sent Sanford a letter saying he should resign.

Sanford says he is staying. He says the legislators calling for his resignation are the same ones who regularly override his spending vetoes.

At the same time, he's calling on members of civic groups to pressure those legislators to advance his agenda of government restructuring and spending controls.

The AP has posted hundreds of articles about Sanford concerning his ethics. His career is over when he leaves office. What else can be accomplished? Why not move the focus to Charlie Rangle? He's not only a felon serving in congress, he continues to consume taxpayer money by the millions.

Sanford has become almost as

Sanford has become almost as big an embarrassment as Sarah Palin--he's not as dumb as she is, but he's an embarrassment.

I agree, DeepSouth.

I agree, DeepSouth. Sanford's starting to resemble one of those clueless drunks that litter the highway on an Indian reservation. They have a reason (genetically indisposed to comprehend the connection between cause and effect) but what is Governor Sanford's excuse?

I agree that Sanford should just go away at this point. No one will want to work with him on anything. However, I disagree that Sarah Palin was an embarrassment or dumb. Why are you Democrats so scared of her? And Biden is better or smarter? Please! I am also offended by your rascist comment about American Indians. It was your liberal social programs that led to the problems many American Indians face today in their welfare state. Thanks LBJ!
