WASHINGTON -- The nastiness of August's health care debate reached into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as President Barack Obama tried to move his reform plan forward.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

It wasn't the only interruption during Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress in the House of Representatives. Earlier, Republicans laughed when Obama acknowledged that there are still significant details to be worked out before a health care overhaul can be passed.

Wilson's outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech. Overhead in the visitors' gallery, first Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side.

South Carolina, what else do

South Carolina, what else do you expect? He will never have the respect for President Obama that he has had for other presidents for the obvious reason that we all know. He was brought up that way and to him it just comes natural. He has to listen to someone that is smarter than he is and it shocks his lifetime feeling of superiority over people who don't look like he does. Its not intentional on his part, it is embeded in his character.

As if South Carolina hasn't

As if South Carolina hasn't already been embarrassed enough by its politicians, Joe Wilson has to jump into the sewer too. Sorry Joe, I thought you were a better man.

It's South Carolina. What do

It's South Carolina. What do you expect? These are the people that wanted to send Mark Sanford to the White House. BTW, Purelaughs, was your second post after the first to remind yourself that you had just made a feeble attempt at sarcasm? Dumb and dumberer. Hey, Joe Wilson, you're gonna get called out on your outburst. You better get ready. Get Rove to give you some pointers, while he's still running loose.

How like the Chronicle, to choose this item as its way of acknowledging a major Presidential address to both houses of Congress. Couldn't afford a can of spray paint? Or do you simply lack the skill to produce graffiti?

Rep. Wilson should be

Rep. Wilson should be censured for his incredible lack of decorum and respect for the Congress. His classless act embarassed all Republicans. Even Dems showed restraint when Bush lied about WMD during the state of the union.

You have brought shame on

You have brought shame on yourself and the people of South Carolina. Your kind of behavior is unbecoming of a US Congressman and has helped to make the current debate the realm of bullies and loudmouths. Rather than listening to others, you think it is okay to shout and heckle. What a horrible example you set.

Senator McCain thinks you should apologize. I don't think that is enough.

I loved the way the insurance

I loved the way the insurance representatives sat stony faced and refusing to acknowledge the President when he said they are in a monopoly in 35 states. They didn't get that way because they were dealing with smart people.

As a republican, I have to

As a republican, I have to say that Rep. Wilson's outburst was inappropriate and showed a lack of respect for our country's leader. I am by no means a fan of O'bama. However, for Rep. Wilson to disrespect him in such a public forum is unacceptable.

Bravo to SC Rep. Joe Wilson.

Bravo to SC Rep. Joe Wilson. Obama calls Sarah Palin a liar on a national stage before both chmabers of Congress and you're upset about what Rep. Wilson says. What other prominent politician do you think he was talking about when he said their claims of death panels was a lie??????????????? Typical Chicago thug tactics. Oh by the way, how is his stimulus working? He promised no more than 8% unemployment if the bill was passed. We'll be at 10% soon. He promised no tax increase on the people earning less than $250,000. If cap and tax is passed and he signs it, all of our power bills will go up. I guess that's not a tax increase!!!!!!!!!!!!! You dems need to stop drinking the KoolAid and really look deeply into what this man stands for and more importantly the people he surrounds himself with. Van Jones and Rev. Wright come to mind.

Just print another trillion

Just print another trillion dollars and buy what you want Obama. After all they know more about how to solve the worlds problem. better than the ones that have run the goverment the last 230 years. It's pretty obvious since the deficit only increased 4 times what it was 8 months ago.

Wilson Is just representing

Wilson Is just representing the majority of people in south carolina...

I am pretty sure he just sealed any state election in the next 4 years.

I wasn't embarrassed at all, in fact, if you read the history of our nation, you'll find that most political meetings were filled with loud speaking and threatening language.

I mean, we used to settle arguments with pistol duels for crying out loud...

This is COMPLETLY

This is COMPLETLY UNACCEPTABLE behavior of our Congressmen. As McCain and other republicans immediately said, he should apoligize to the President and to those whom he represents. Most republicans do not stand for bad behavior and that is why you have seen most call for the resignation of Governor Mark Sanford. Frankly, I thought the speach was very well polished and answered nothing. The president did lower the number of uninsured by the thousands (supposedly the illegal imigrants) and touched barely on tort reform. However, even the most liberal of persons knows that either this President is nieve, completely oblivious or not telling the truth when he says he can fund this 900 Billion dollar program without any tax increases or an increase to the defecit. Even the congressional budget office disputes this claim. And, if we really can find $500 billion in waste in medicare, then lets see our governemnt solve this problem for just ONE YEAR. Instead, with national health care, it will just be another program with billions in waste. I don't trust our health care in the hands of democrats or republicans and neither should you. We can improve health care but not this way.

Tacky tacky tacky. You may

Tacky tacky tacky. You may never have learned this but the appropriate response to someone stating something you disagree with is to wait until they are finished and then make a logical argument designed to persuade. Yelling is rude. Yelling in the Congress is disrespectful and not effective (see the "Code Pink" disruptions). It is not how we should do things NOW in America. There are logical arguments against Obama and universal healthcare. These arguments do not involve made up scare tactics name calling (sow? really?) or ad personam attacks.
