The lawyer's name came up last week as the Augusta Commission was questioned by sheriff’s investigators and the FBI about possible bribe attempts involving the proposed trade, exhibit and event center.

Commissioners said they understood that an attorney had approached Commissioners Alvin Mason and Corey Johnson about their votes.

It doesn't end here folk.. Mr

It doesn't end here folk.. Mr Fry is just the tip of the iceberg. The question is will the media investigate this further and connect all of the dots? Only the DDA could have offered special privileges from the parking deck as they would have owned it, Mr Fry could not have offered anything to the commissioners without the complicity of the DDA or at their direction. Investigate the DDA.

Hillguy, Lets get the record

Hillguy, Lets get the record straight. The City owns the rights to manage the parking deck, just as it does on the current deck. It's not the DDA, they just issue the bonds, they don't manage! The city then in turn would issue an RFP for a management company. And yes all Commissioners have been questioned.

joebowles - how much

joebowles - how much "management" is required of a concrete structure with automated ticket dispensing and automated payment centers? You need one person to sit in a booth for those who are still stuck in the 70s and a janitorial service to empty trash cans and pick up debris. Oh wait......we are talking about a government run short duration automobile space leasing corporation.

Please let us look at this with clear vision...what does this retired lawyer have to offer...nothing! He was only the front man, now we have to find out who put him up to making an offer to Cory and Alvin...the plot thickens!!!

I used to watch the local

I used to watch the local evening news faithfully, now no more.
It saddens me to see the mickey mouse circus that surrounds
the commission meetings being broadcast for the hardworking citizens odf our city to see.
How can Augusta move ahead when our commissioners cannot
attempt to conduct themselves in a halfway professional fashion. Baseball park , Tee center, blah, blah ,blah. Maybe a little less talk . Why do the taxpayers of Richmond County have to "contribute" DONATE?, the money spent on this study and that study, and in the end have nothing to show for it . What "study are we paying for next ? Perhaps we need to study a complete ourhaul of the commission all together

The Big O - I never said this was a difficult task, hence my amazement of this ridiculous offer. There is not much money to be made here.

Correct you are Mr. Bowles. White ElephanTees don't make money. They spend the taxpayers money!!! At any rate ,,a bribe is a bribe.

A crooked group of downtown

A crooked group of downtown developers in Augusta?!?!?!? NO! Say it isn't so! (EYES ROLLING) so what is new about this? I bet the DDA is connected in some way. How else could anyone promise anything related to the parking deck. And Joe, there is money in parking decks if the they are built using penny sales tax and the DDA makes money by being the middle man on the bonds. I bet old Byrd Warlick is going to make a plie of bones on this one.

Remember how the DDA and

Remember how the DDA and Woodard screwed over Horizon and Sherwin Loudermilk on the White's Building? I wouldn't put anything past that sordid group. The commission needs to do a full scale audit of the DDA.

Is a bribe only a bribe if

Is a bribe only a bribe if it's done in secret? What about public, blatant, bribes? Or is there no such thing as a public bribe? What do you call it when someone offers money to a person representing a district in public so that the person will agree to a deal? Is that not a bribe? And which is worse, when the person takes the sweetened deal, or when the person backs out on the conditions of the deal after taking the money on behalf of constituents and district?

Not sure, all I said was that

Not sure, all I said was that 'crooked' 'developer' and 'downtown' all go together like the Soul Generals and Jame Brown! It was a sarcastic remark! Maybe that's it! I am loving this. And again, the DDA has to be a part of this considering it is the ones building the parking deck.

baroness... you are 100%

baroness... you are 100% correct! Legally though what was offered to Beard is not technically a bribe, but I see where you are coming from. But this is Don Grantham's modus operandi... make things happen thru backroom deals..tit for tat... this stuff may not be illegal, but I think we should expect better from our politicians and demand that this kind of stuff stop.

I think the record speaks for

I think the record speaks for itself concerning dowtown developers being unethical, dishonest, and criminals. Look no further than the White' Building and you see massive debt, cheated workers/contractors and massive over selling of these projects as 'progressive growth'. And then this happens. Dig deeper and FOLLOW the money...
