ATLANTA — The Georgia State Patrol says a motorcyclist who sped down Atlanta freeways while being pursued by police died when he crashed and was thrown into oncoming traffic.

Troopers identified the victim of the Sunday night accident as 44-year-old John Frederick Freeman of McDonough.

State Patrol spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper says the 21-mile chase began on Interstate Highway 75 on Atlanta's north side after a trooper flashed his squad car's lights when the the motorcycle sped by.

Cosper says the motorcycle headed south through downtown and took Interstate 85 toward Atlanta's airport, but struck a wall. He says the motorcycle skidded to a stop and Freeman was hurled over the wall into the path of an SUV.

I'm sick of these idiots who run from the police, putting other people's lives in danger. Usually you end up finding out they had no valid reason for running anyways. This guy got what he got...I guarantee he won't do it again.

Hopefully the people in the SUV had good full coverage insurance otherwise they are out of luck. I also hope that there were no young children involved and if so they are not traumitized by the actions of an idiot. Really makes you wonder though why they didn't call off the chase after they got a picture of his license? I am sure with what we pay for squad cars they do have cameras, don't they? And also they do have the address of people with license plates, don't they? Why isn't the law such that if they have a picture and the owner denys it, the vehicle is impounded until the driver can be found?
