Air lock door prevents robbery

Two men were prevented from robbing a North Augusta hotel early Sunday morning by an air lock door.

According to the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, two men entered the front door of the Sleep Inn at 921 Edgefield Road about 5:10 a.m. A clerk saw the two men standing at an air lock door that had been turned off so it would not open. The robbers shouted for the clerk to open the door, and he noticed one of the men holding what appeared to be a handgun. The clerk refused to open the door, and the robbers fled to the parking lot.

Surveillance footage showed a white or light-colored car leaving the area.
