Mayor Deke Copenhaver confirmed today that Commissioner J.R. Hatney will be the fourth member of his committee formed to find a solution to the trade, exhibit and event center dilemma.

The other three, who accepted the mayor’s offers Wednesday, are Joe Bowles, Joe Jackson and Corey Johnson.

On Tuesday the Augusta Commission voted 9-0, with Betty Beard abstaining, to have the mayor head a five-person committee that will come up with a recommendation and bring it to the full commission on Sept. 15 to be voted up or down. The move is part of a last-ditch effort to find common ground on an issue that has had the city government gridlocked along racial lines since early May.
