Drivers will be forced to navigate around parts of Sixth Street over the next few months because of road repairs.

The Augusta Engineering Department says Sixth Street from the Walton Way overpass to Telfair Street will be closed starting today so a new sewer line can be installed. Construction is scheduled to end Dec. 31.

Only one section of the road will be closed at a time while the work is under way. The project will start at the Walton Way end and will continue north. Drivers will be able to get around the closed sections of the road by using Fifth or Seventh streets.
