Kelvin Steffor Johnson was released from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville after serving 16 months of a three-year sentence on a second-degree forgery conviction, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

He is now being held without bond at the Richmond County Jail, accused of fatally shooting a Hephzibah woman, wounding her husband and robbing them both of household items and a pickup truck.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Mr. Johnson, 24, around 7:30 a.m. at a home in the 2300 block of Boykin Road, said Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. Calvin Chew. He is charged with murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Police believe Mr. Johnson fatally shot Martha Greene shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday at her home in the 2200 block of Plantation Road, Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles said in an e-mail.

Her husband, Tilman Coley “T.C.” Greene, was shot in the mouth, and was recovering at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics as of this morning, Richmond County Maj. Ken Autry said.

Police said Mr. Johnson rode up to the Greene’s home on a blue Mongoose BMX bicycle and had a short conversation with Mrs. Greene’s husband before pulling out a handgun and struggling with the victim.

During the struggle, Mr. Greene was shot in the face and pretended to be dead, Lt. Peebles said. Mr. Johnson then shot Mrs. Greene at least once, and began rummaging through the couple’s belongings. He got away with a big-screen television and the couple’s white 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Police have not yet located the stolen truck.

Interesting that the husband "played dead" allowing the suspect to kill his wife and rummage through the house. Hope the suspect is caught soon.

My sister-in-law lives in

My sister-in-law lives in that area and her home was burglarized 3 times!--RCSO told her that they don't investigate robberies but she could sit in her house with a weapon and the lights off and wait for them and take her own action--wow. Several other homes in the area were hit as well in the last month. We moved her out of there.

I'm sure Mr. Greene thought

I'm sure Mr. Greene thought the best thing to do since he had just been shot in the face, was to "play dead". I'm sure he did not realize that this jerk would shoot his defenseless wife. As for playing dead while he rummaged through your house...heck yes I would. This man has shot me, shot my wife (probably didn't know at the time if she was dead or not). What is in the house is material things, he probably just wanted the suspect to get what he wanted and leave so he could get help. I'm sure this suspect thought he had killed Mr. Greene...might as well shot the wife too...no witnesses you know.

This may be one case that

This may be one case that gets the death penalty. Let us all pray that justice is served. Any armed robbery used to be eligible for capital punishment but sadly the courts now only allow the death penalty on "some" murder cases. We are seeing the result of the courts decision with this rash of armed robberies and violent crimes. God help us.

The only way that we will

The only way that we will start to see public outcry against all of these armed robberies and murders is for a public official or their family member to become a victim. Our elected officials have turned their heads to the plight of the common people.
