A man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault in a shooting in south Augusta Saturday night that led to the discovery of weapons and drugs, police said.

According to a Richmond County jail committal, Kevin Wayne Self, 32, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Richmond County sheriffs Investigator Kendall Brown said the shooting occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Shelby Drive, off Lumpkin Road. Two white men in a blue and gray Chevrolet truck pulled into the driveway at 2942 Shelby Drive. The men got out of the truck and shouted racial slurs at a black family next door, the investigator said. When confronted, one of the men drew a revolver and fired twice, striking a man in the right hand, Investigator Brown said.
The men fled toward Lumpkin Road. The victim was treated at the scene.
Police searched the house at 2942 Shelby Drive and found five high-powered rifles, three shotguns and live ammunition in a bedroom and three loaded handguns in the living room, Investigator Brown said. They also found 329 grams of marijuana, an unmarked bottle of unknown pills, a digital scale with marijuana residue, a metal marijuana grinder and marijuana-distribution bags, he said.
The occupants of the house, James and Patricia Bowden, were arrested, the investigator said. Mr. Bowden was charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Mrs. Bowden was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
