BUFORD, Ga. — The euphoria that went with being the first of the thousands of boys who will go on to play football for Grovetown gave the Warriors enough energy for a little more than a quarter.

Grovetown's Joe Cooper, right center, and the rest of the Grovetown team lines up against Buford during the first half of their game Friday.

Facing one of the best teams in the state, they were tough early in a 51-0 loss at Buford Friday night. It was the first game in the history of the Columbia County school, a team with only six seniors.

“A quarter and a half we played football with one of the better teams in the country,” coach Rodney Holder said.

Look for the game report in its entirety in tomorrow's Chronicle.

They played well, for a first

They played well, for a first game ever..Give them time. Most
others around here took their lumps in the first year.

On another note, Aquinas showed surprising strength tonight
in a scrimmage game, beating AA Harlem 43-13 if I got it right.
