A coalition of Augustans opposed to the national health care reform plan will hold a rally from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Riverwalk amphitheater.
Speakers at the Stop Obama Care rally will include doctors, health care providers, congressmen and other elected officials, and citizens who have experienced socialized health care, according to the Web site socrally.com.
Columbia County resident Billy Jackson is chairman of the committee organizing the SOC event.
"We felt like that because of all the turmoil they're having at the town hall meetings the legislators will stop having them, and that will affect our voices being heard," Mr. Jackson said.
"Everyone wants to do something but they don't know what to do. We felt like if we could get other communities to join with us and bring in their elected officials and doctors to come and speak on Sept. 3 we could create a national rally."
Attendees are asked to bring socks to the event that will be mailed to Washington in protest of House Bill 3200.
"We plan to flood the halls of Congress with them in order to convey our message!" the group's Web site states.
Mr. Jackson said Georgia congressmen Paul Broun and Nathan Deal have agreed to speak, and the committee has invited congressmen John Barrow and Gresham Barrett, and senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson.
"We're going to go over line items in this bill where we think there are points that are detrimental to our health care," Mr. Jackson said.
About a dozen people are involved in organizing the event.
"We're calling ourselves a coalition of concerned citizens. We are looking for volunteers to help us," Mr. Jackson said.

JHS1968 since the Republicans are sponsoring this event, and are having mostly republican speakers, the only rage you will probably see will be staged theatrics when all the politicians come on stage and throw down the manual in unison like Broun did earlier this month. There will be and I say this for a truth NO SHOUTING, outspoken, enraged people in attendance because their fearmongering speakers are going to feed fear to their attentive ears. However I'm sure there will be plenty of Obama posters depicting him as hitler, the swastika will be on display and every other sign derogatory towards him. I suppose if they would let those who really want to call him something on a poster for display they will, but the sponsors and politicians present will have to error on precaution.

Oh my goodness!!! Here we go again with the Republicans! Can anyone explain to me why it is mostly old people that are having such a fit about government intervention into our broken health care system when Senior Citizens have most of their insurance paid through Medicare/Medicaid? And what is Medicare....a GOVERNMENT program....thus we already have government involvement in health care so what is the big deal? Can you imagine the massive protests that would happen if we dissolved Medicare and THAT government program. Does anyone really think our Health Care system works now? Have you seen our world ratings comparative to other countries? I work for a hospital and see the tons of uninsured people that we must see and see the continued loss of jobs and revenue because hospitals cannot break even due to the massive write-offs of indigent care. The last time I checked, this country overwhelmingly voted for Obama who campaigned on this very same health plan that a very loud minority of Republicans are now trying to derail. For goodness sake, give it a chance. Our healthcare system certainly is not working the way it is now.

Umm no because I refuse to be in the mist of all that fear and confusion, then again, if I make a sign and say I am for health care and try to ask a question to the panel I wonder how would I be received? or if I make a sign of Bush and have a derogatory slogan on it how would those in attendance treat me. The solution is for those supporting reform to go and give them a taste of their own medicine, yelling over them, shouting lies and disrupting the whole thing. It takes little intelligence to be smarter than a Republican........Also, it's being reported that Dems are now trying to work a plan that they all can agree on, and do this without the whiners. It's just a shame that they even thought that Republicans would try to work for all the American people, not just the wealthy and unintelligent.

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Another point of interest is this protest will not be attended by Republicans only I am sure quite a few "discouraged" Democrats will be there as well.
