Here's an excerpt from this week's City Ink column, which returns to The Chronicle this weekend after a nine-month absence. Get the complete version online or in print on Sunday.

... A gun belonging to the director of the state parole office is now in the hands of a criminal. Elizabeth Oxford was attending a trial in Augusta. She went to the House of Prayer on Wrightsboro Road for lunch and left her Glock in her black four-door Impala. When she returned, she found that the car had been broken into and the gun stolen, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report.

The report was a little confusing because it said an unknown person had broken into the car by "unknown means" and had taken the gun. Ms. Oxford, however, said there was a pry mark on the left front door at the door handle.

I do wonder why you had to know where to look to find that police report...

I was under the impression that Johnny Edwards' Sunday column replaced Syliva's column. What gives?

I have noticed that when

I have noticed that when something like this happens, it is usually an administrator involved. Trunks are made for securing guns a little better than a regular car door. Use your head for something other than growing hair.

Of course it is her fault

Of course it is her fault since some criminal broke into a locked care on church property to steal. Why in the world would we actually place blame where it belongs? I am always amused when a victim is blamed in part for the actions of a criminal. This is like the days (sill occurs) when people use to say "you were raped because of what you were wearing." Place blame where it belongs, soley on the actions of the criminal.

That's alright, a window of mine was shot out (10 inches or so above my head when I was standing there washing dishes at my kitchen sink). The front porch which was clean swept a few days before was examined, a specific projectile was found and the report said the same thing, window was broken by unknown projectile. ??? Call me confused.
