The first morning rush of back to school traffic in Columbia County appears to be slowing down.

Annette Drowlette/ Staff
Traffic backs up this morning heading to the Lakeside High, Lakeside Middle and Blue Ridge Elementary school zone. Columbia County schools began the 2009-2010 session today.

Drivers should watch for school children and traffic.

The heaviest morning traffic was seen near the Lakeside and Greenbrier school zones, where three schools - elementary, middle and high schools - are clustered together.

The school day began between 7:35 and 7:50 a.m. for middle and high school students. Elementary schools started at 8:30 a.m.

The speed limit in school zones is 25 miles per hour.
