An Appling man who was arrested in June while attending a shoot for Miley Cyrus’ new movie in Tybee Island, Ga., was taken into custody today by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of criminal attempt stalking.
Mark McLeod, 53, was arrested “without incident” at about 5:15 p.m. at his home on Linder-McCurdy Road, said sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris. Tybee Island authorities had issued an arrest warrant earlier today.
Capt. Morris said he believed that Mr. McLeod, who was warned to stay away from Miley, was seen back in the Tybee Island area Sunday.
He is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center until Tybee Island police pick him up, Capt. Morris said.
“From what we’ve been told, they will pick him up in the morning and take him back to Tybee,” he said.
In June Mr. McLeod made “inappropriate comments” to young girls while attending shoots for The Last Song, according to Tybee police.
Mr. McLeod screamed obscenities as officers approached him and tried to head-butt an arresting officer as he was being taken to the patrol car, according to Tybee police.
He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct but was released from the Chatham County jail the day after his arrest because of overcrowding, according to authorities.
In the past, Mr. McLeod has showed up outside a Miley book signing event on March 6 in Manhattan. He professed his love to the teen star, whom he said he would marry in a video clip posted by the New York Daily News.
He also has said that the star communicated with him through secret messages in photos and her TV show.
Capt. Morris said previously that Mr. McLeod had no criminal record with the sheriff’s office. He was named a suspect in a 2006 stalking case, but no charges were filed, he said.

My how times change. During the Bush Administration you could get arrested for taking pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, now they put you in jail for showing up on Tybee Island. I'm sure Miley does not share this man's sentiments. Did anyone actually listen to the tape? Someone needs to put this fella in a mental hospital before he hurts someone.
