Jesse Ray Kenneth Burnett was arrested on Thursday for stabbing Chad Drummond at Riverside Park Wednesday night.

Jesse Ray Kenneth Burnett, 20, of Pyes Court, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Police say that Mr. Burnett and another man started fighting at Riverside Park off Hardy McManus Road at about 11:30 p.m. When William Chad Drummond, 20, tried to break up the fight, Mr. Burnett stabbed Mr. Drummond in the forearm, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

Mr. Drummond, of Appling, defended himself by punching Mr. Burnett. Then Mr. Burnett stabbed him in the upper torso. Mr. Drummond, who police found at the scene bleeding profusely, was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Capt. Morris said.

Mr. Burnett left the park in a white Ford truck. A witness followed the truck and got the tag number.

Police arrested Mr. Burnett at his home just after 9 p.m. He is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail personnel.

Alot of people will probably

Alot of people will probably not like this very much. But I honestly could care less. Keep your sorry *** in hephzibah. We really don't want people like yourself in Columbia County. It is very, very seldom that you find a Columbia County resident starting trouble in Hephzibah!

There is this huge animosity

There is this huge animosity towards Richmond County and while I am a resident of Richmond county I still have a fabulous job in Columbia County. That is not always the case. Richmond County provides many jobs for the elite Columbia County folk so I wouldn't bite the hand that feeds you. This punk could have been raised in Columbia County and moved to Hephzibah. It happens. We all are thankful he was caught.

I have a child who was there

I have a child who was there and he was brave enough to go to the police and make a statement. He stated chad was not trying to break up a fight. The fight was over and Chad was looking for a fight. He also stated the guy thay was arrested was backing up and Chad was approaching him. From what I understand Chad was twice this guys size. I hope more who were there can find the strenght to come forward and make a statement.
