Dispute ends in a house fire

Richmond County authorities arrested a man accused of setting fire to a house Saturday morning after an argument with a woman.

Richard Odell Johnson, 39, 125 Carline Road in Gloverville, was charged with kidnapping, arson and criminal domestic violence of high and aggravated nature, according to Aiken County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Meyers.

According to a Sheriff’s Office crime alert, deputies and the Langley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Carline Road home about 9 a.m.

After extinguishing the fire, a woman who identified herself as Mr. Johnson’s girlfriend told investigators that he had gotten into an argument with her, locked them into the house and set it on fire, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The woman was able to escape unharmed.

Damage to the home was reported as moderate.

Mr. Johnson is being held in the Richmond County jail.
