TTX Co. in North Augusta will be furloughing workers for at least 60 days beginning in August.

“In response to these business conditions, TTX will reduce car maintenance expenditures by suspending all TTX railcar maintenance at the Southeastern Repair Division North Augusta shop, which will idle effective Friday, Aug. 7,” Sara Lorenzo, a communications director at Chicago-based TTX Co., said in a statement today.

This idle period will be for a minimum of 60 days and affects 170 employees. Employees will continue to receive health and welfare benefits during this period, she said.

TTX will continue to monitor industry conditions and resume TTX railcar maintenance activity at the North Augusta shop when economic conditions improve, she said. The local plant is located at 1 Hamburg Road in North Augusta.

TTX provides railcars and freight car management services to the North American rail industry.

I work at TTX in North

I work at TTX in North Augusta. Lately, I have noticed the unreasonable expenditures towards unrelated facility activities and heard the promises of better times to come. I do know that this organization is muddled in exuberant hierarchy, wasteful protocol and the "good ole boy" mentality in terms of promotion. The people that work there, however, are a good group of individuals that deserve the truth. I employ those who are in the know, tell us the truth. Don't you think we deserve some dignity?

purmkin, I don't think you

purmkin, I don't think you own TTX. I don't think you answer to any of the stockholders and I don't think you sign the checks each week. So, with that said, I doubt TTX had to give anyone benefits or any thing else for that matter, but they did. And what in the hell are you worried about promotions when the damn company trying to keep you working. Most companies come and tell the workers they're closing the doors in two weeks and have a good life. You ought to feel fortunate!!!!

Yes we all would like the

Yes we all would like the truth, but as I know first hand from my company they do not have to tell you any thing. You are lucky that you got that. My company is keeping everybody in limbo so we do not know where to go. God Bless to all that work there. Hope all goes well.

They can't tell you anything

They can't tell you anything more, they are saying it'll be a layoff for 60 days and then after that it'll be dependent on market conditions. You can predict the market as well as they can- meaning, no one can. They'll bring people back when the market improves- and no one knows when that will be.
