NORMAN, Okla. - The two area players remaining in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship won their first-round matches today by slim margins.

Augusta State men’s golf coach Josh Gregory beat Corey Nagy, of Charlotte, N.C., 1-up.

Mitch Krywulycz, who will be a junior on Gregory’s team in the fall, also won 1-up, to Austin Bowman, of Pryor, Okla.

Canada’s Nick Taylor, who was the stroke-play medalist, won his first match 6 and 4 over Craig Cyr, of Concord, N.H.

Second- and third-round matches will be played Thursday followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals Friday. The scheduled 36-hole final will be Saturday, with the winner earning an invitation to the 2010 Masters Tournament.

The U.S. Golf Association event is being played at Jimmie Austin Oklahoma University Golf Club.
