Police serving a warrant to an Augusta man Tuesday night arrived to find the suspect with more than 20 guns.

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were serving warrants to Kendall McGee, 27, at a home in the 3800 block of Belair Road about 8:30 p.m., said Richmond County sheriff’s Investigator Ron Sylvester. Police took Mr. McGee into custody in connection with computer crimes committed in LaGrange, Ga. Investigators later discovered between 20 and 30 handguns and rifles that Mr. McGee said he owned.

No charges have been filed for the weapons, but the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether Mr. McGee owned the guns legally.

Mr. McGee is being held at the Richmond County jail pending extradition, Investigator Sylvester said.

Needless sensationalism in this article, if Mr. McGee was as dangerous as they are trying to portray he would have been arrested by Lt. Gay not some regular detective. Oh and by the way, owning guns is still legal you know. Commiting a crime with one is a different matter, and should be punished.

jack

Reckon he is a gun collector? Hell. I've got a bunch of guns.

JackBootedThug

I agree about the sensationalism in this article. If he legally owned the guns where's the story? Lots of people own multiple guns. The story would have one believe that he met them at the door with all his guns blazing. I guess if RCSD come to my house I'll be called a "heavily armed Augusta man" eventhough they are all locked in a safe. Does anyone at the AC read these article before they are printed???

jackfruitpaper833

He may have been on his way to DC.

Native007

What a catchy title!

Grinder

ridiculous sensationalism. "Suspect arrested for forgery ... found to have 20 pairs of socks" The guns are irrelevant. Come on AC, get your act together!

RAWR

This has got to be wrong! He didn't shoot up the cops serving the warrant?!?

Philo-Publis

How can you not own guns legally? Maybe they are checking to see if any of them were stolen or used in a crime.

I'd hate for Georgia to become the next Nanny State.

Grasshopper

Yea come to my house, why take the mans guns over computer crime? I guess we will have to wait for the rest of the story. JBT a gun is no good locked in a safe.

AugustaVoter

I loved the breaking news story last night that the bomb squad was called because of this! What a waste of tax dollars.

charlesd

It says this story is from "staff reports" Wonder what they were smoking when they put this one together. This is a joke, with a punch line and all.............you go.....Billy ! When this one goes..please promise us,you will start up another "joke book"........PLEASE

this article is in disarray. The first sentance says - ...Tuesday night arrived to find the suspect with more than 20 guns. -- this leads one to believe he had all his guns on him ready for officers. -- Then it goes on to say --- ...Investigators later discovered between 20 and 30 handguns and rifles that Mr. McGee said he owned --- this tells me more than likely, officers asked a procedural question - such as - do you own weapons - and he answered yes. -- Before reporting the guns or even the headline of this article, wouldn't one find out if he owned the guns legally or not. If these are legal, then is the chronicle going to print a retraction or update the story that the guns were in fact legal. They are trying to make a story out of none.

ladidadi

sad to say I've been to this guys house because I knew someone who knew him. He had an entire room full of guns of all sorts, no idea if all of them were legal. He also had a ton of military ammo cases, and god only knows what else. Strange dude for sure, I always felt there were some screws missing but he seemed fairly responsible supporting himself and working full time, but then again this story doesn't surprise me either. I figured he was bound for trouble at some point. He always wore camo pants, drove a blacked out car, his house was a mess, spent far too much time on the internet, and was far too heavily into weapons. I'm curious to see what comes of all of this.

Lumbarsupport

So you're saying he was an ex-cop?

ladidadi

definitely not, he was a kid with a semi troubled mind and an obsession with weapons of sorts. Though he showed some responsibility and an ounce of a soft spot.

CarolinaRdNk

Not going to get into a discussion with anyone on this, but I worked with the guy about 10 years ago, and trust me, Ladidadi couldn't be more correct. Dude was/is out there for sure!

FallsChurch@12:25-Man I almost spit my water out.Still LMAO thanks.

mad_max

Let me see....1 2 3 ....19 20 21 22 23. Oh yeh, I could make the headlines any day now. Geez. No story here AC. Come back later if they find they were stolen weapons, or he threatened someone, of he was a convicted felon. But this did not rate ink.

JackBootedThug

Grssshopper, I didn't say ALL my guns were in the safe... :) (evil grin)

Kendall is a nice person. I know him personally. I've worked with him for 9 years and his is a great person. He has his own style like anyone else. He collects guns, that's his hobby, everyone has one. Among that he made sure they were legal, meaning he had a permit. It's not right how the media is trying to make it seem as though he was heavily armed. He just has a gun collection. He just keeps some of the most expensive in his safe so they don't walk off when he has company. Yes he wore camo pants,it was only to get attention, so someone can notice him. You don't know his background, so you can't judge him. He was a gun collector. That's all, and trust me he has permits. I've seen them.

Riverman1

Permits for what? You don't need permits to have guns unless you carry them concealed. I'd also like to know what his computer crime is. That covers a lot of territory.

ladidadi

I'm not saying he was a horrible person, I never had a bad run in with him, EVER. He was always nice to me, just a little strange. It's not the norm to come across a guy like him so people are going to blow it up like it's a huge deal. If anything he needs some psychological help, I understand he had a difficult upbringing. Some people are just different, but even nice people can commit crimes. From what I read in other articles he is being linked to some sort of sex crime in LaGrange on a minor. Maybe it's a false accusation, who knows. I wish him luck.

fyjigmo

If he had committed a crime involving the firearms, then it would be worth printing. Augusta Chronicle, I am ashamed of you. This is a Nation of Riflemen, it is how your freedoms were won and kept. If this person is convicted of a felony, then he loses the right to own a firearm. Simple. This sensationalism is how you are going to lose your first amendment rights. I am a firearms collector focusing on WWII military firearms. I have a safe, several firearms and a Federal Curio and Relic License to facilitate collecting, a carry permit for my pistol, and am a miltary Noncommisioned Officer. Don't Tread on Me!

Bubba

So what I surmise here is this schmo is cooling his heels in jail and any thieving dirtbag with a computer can read this article, hit a few search engines to figure out exactly where on the 3800 block he lives and bust in there tonight and steal his guns. I guess they best not hope Kendall lives with his mom and that she would know how to shoot. It didn't say the cops took the guns, they maybe just took him. Y'all are right tho. This is horribly written, No wonder it says staff reports, no one person dare lay claim to it.

KendallsOnlyFriend

He collected guns for over 10 of the 15 years I have known him, but every gun he bought was legal and made sure of it. For the comments on him being a little strange , its true but hell who isn't a little strange? everyone is strange in some ways. The camo clothes comment that was made..the reason for him wearing camo is because he was really tight with his money and camo was cheap! If you knew Kenny you would know he was a penny pincher. But as far as the internet crime goes....He wouldn't do anything like that it has all got to be a big misunderstanding.

jacobwriggsly

Billy at his finest. This paper is going south about as fast as this country.

KSL

I have a problem with that misleading headline: Police Arrest Heavily Armed Man. Shouldn't it read something like police arrested a man for a crime and find numerous weapons? The headline makes it sound like he had 20 weapons strapped to him when he was arrested.

KSL

How about something to the effect that the police have arrested a man wanted for computer crimes who was found to be in possession of 20-30, (why couldn't they get an accurate count) weapons?

apex24

The picture in the paper says volumes. What we saw with that picture is what Obama and his cronies are hoping will happen across this once great country. My advice is DO NOT register your constitutionally allowed weapons because the Obama cronies will know you have them and when they come to take them away, USE THEM.

Mudfish

Hey Grasshopper, I keep my guns locked in a safe as well. This is when I am not home. When I am home, the safe is unlocked and I have two handguns out and ready, one for me and one for my wife. If she feels like it, she can load my old double barrel smoke pole and use it.
