A Harlem woman who was the focus of a Georgia's sex offender registry law was arrested Wednesday on drug charges.

Wendy Whitaker, 29, of Church Street, was charged with purchase/possession/manufacturing/distribution/sale of a controlled substance and possession of Schedule II drugs. She is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center on a $15,200 bond, according to jail records.

When she was 17, Mrs. Whitaker, was convicted of sodomy involving a consensual act with a teen boy. Because of that charge she was evicted from her home in 2008 because of stricter Georgia sex offender laws enacted in 2006.

Her name was not on the deed to the home, which was too close to a church and day-care center.

Her case received state and regional notoriety for what some suggested were problems with the Georgia law.

Since the woman was arrested

Since the woman was arrested for nothing before and was subjected to all the crap that went with it, I have to wonder if she hasn't cracked, no pun intended. Due to all the attention on her and labeling.

Look at today's Richmond

Look at today's Richmond County neighbors! James COUSART, Jr. is already a registered sex offender! How many children's lives does he have to ruin before the courts put him away!!!!!! People you need to start looking at the pictures on the sex offender list and pay attention to who lives near you and your children.

Cousart's wife,Amy, is not

Cousart's wife,Amy, is not much of a woman ,either!!!Years ago, there use to be "nosey" neighbors. Where did they go? People need to KNOW whats going on beside them and in their neighbor-hood.Children don't have a chance in hell ,with parents like that.

it's sad...all these years

it's sad...all these years later she's still being hounded for something she did as a TEENAGER...the state of Georgia made an example out of her...that's what happened...and now she's being compared to rapists and child pornagraphy lovers...ridiculous...people should be nosy...but they should leave people alone who are not deemed a threat to the public...like old men in their 80's and 90's in nursing homes who can barely hold their heads up...read up on the sex offender laws in this state...can't violate the takings clause...can't remove someone from their home or residence as long as they were there before 7/1/2006...bother the perverts...most definitely...bother people who love kids in a way they shouldn't...make a separate registry for the extremist of offenders so people will know who is violent and a threat to the safety of their community and their children and so they can know who isn't going to bother a soul...btw...[filtered word] does this article have anything to do with her being a registered sex offender? anyone establish that was the reason she did it or was caught doing it?

Isn't Georgia one of those

Isn't Georgia one of those states that have laws against oral sex no matter who does it and where it is done? If so who police it and don't you think there are a lot of sex offenders there?

You people just don't get it

You people just don't get it do you!!!! The fact that she was found with drugs is the gist of the article. The fact that she sued Columbia County for enforcing the law was just used as a description. No I don't believe that people should pay for the rest of their life for something silly they did in high school but the fact that she is now involved in drugs should wake someone up to the type of person she is. The state didn't make an example out of her, she brought attention to herself by suing. Otherwise not too many people would have known. So don't make a chold molester move from next door to a daycare because he lived there before the law was enacted. How stupid could you be!!!!!
