COLUMBUS, Ga. — A Phenix City, Ala., man pulled from a June 13 fire in Columbus has died from his burns in an Augusta hospital.

Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower said Tuesday that 40-year-old Raymond Bankston was pronounced dead at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center.

Terry Herring, battalion chief with Columbus Fire and EMS, said the apartment's owners had gone to a store and Bankston was inside resting when the fire occurred.

Two firefighters entered the apartment and found Bankston, who was pulled from the flames.

maybe now we can devote some

maybe now we can devote some attention to our troops serving and dying for our country instead of Michael Jackson.

I'm sure I'm confused this

I'm sure I'm confused this morning. I'm sorry the man died, but how did this make the news. Was there something significant about this fire in Ala., was he famous? And then there's the comment from Porch that totally baggles me. OK, maybe it's just me...but who is running the paper now? And now I guess I need to wake up and realize....our country has pretty much just gone STUPID!!! Oh yeah...I'm proud to be an American for sure, but this ain't America anymore!!!!

I certainly feel for this

I certainly feel for this man's family as his death was almost certainly a tragic and painful one. In regards to porchpeople's comment: I'm hoping that it's been posted to the wrong article. Surely he/she doesn't mean to diminish someone's passing with such a crass comment that has no bearing whatsoever on what has been written.
