Its like he just dropped off the face of the earth, Sgt. Dan Lowe said in an e-mail this morning.
Jerry Lee Jones, 44, slipped off Tuesday morning while working as a custodian cleaning up at the sheriffs office off Georgia Highway 24. Police said he left wearing his white jail-issued duds with Burke County Sheriffs Office marked on the back of his shirt.
He is described as black, 5 feet-9 inches in height and 135 pounds. He was arrested on July 26 on charges of theft by bringing a stolen vehicle into the state, terroristic threats and acts, two counts of obstructing and hindering a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, giving a false name to an officer, no drivers license and unlawful use of a license plate, according to Sgt. Lowe.
Anyone with information about Mr. Jones whereabouts is asked to call the sheriffs office at 706-554-2133 or the law enforcement agency in their area.
