JERUSALEM – Former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and most other members of a group of foreign peace activists seized at sea by the Israeli navy remain in custody after an attempt to run Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
In the latest attempt by activists to break a crippling two-year blockade of Gaza, a group called the Free Gaza Movement sent the ship loaded with humanitarian supplies and 21 activists and crew from Cyprus.
The Israeli navy intercepted the ship Tuesday after it ignored repeated messages saying it would not be allowed to enter Gaza waters and ordering it to turn back.
Among those still being held pending a hearing Sunday is McKinney, who represented Georgia's Fourth District as a Democrat.

Just like man other so called "activists", Cynthia McKinney lives a life of confrontation. When a hearing was held in federal court in Savannah considering the redrawing of her congressional district her father slapped a federal official, but what happened to him? Basically nothing. Keep her I say except those people don't want her either. SHE and the others knew that they were running the blockade so maybe the court in Israel will do something with her. In our country wouldn't that be a federal offense, possibly rising to the level of treason? By the way, according to other reports the goods got delivered by truck WITHOUT the help of McKinney and her blockade running cohorts. There are always ways to get needed supplies to countries like this without running blockades. I have no sympathy for her or those on the ship with her. According to this and other reports she's still defiant and not admitting any blame - all she had to do to get released was sign the paper (you cannot TELL me that she couldn't have had the paper in English or had an interpreter read it for her) and come home...
The "Jackson" she's trying to emulate isn't the dead one: it's the one from Greenville that's alive and festering.Sad.

Release McKinney at once! She did nothing wrong. She was protesting the blockade. We need to stop giving Israel a pass on their blatant human rights violations. Israel is NO better than the Muslim countries around it. They are all rogue nations. If Israel don't release McKinney by the end of this month, we should cease all support for the nation.
Representative Cynthia McKinney was the best congressperson Georgia ever had. She did not vote to give Bush, Jr. authorization to use military force in Iraq. So most of these comments reflect the same kinds of attacks all the Bush supporters used against those of us who knew the Iraq war was going to be a disaster. The bigger issue that the Free Gaza Movement represents is the need to end Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip. As Willistontown, SC suggested, if Israel continues its blockade, the U.S. should cease granting almost $3 billion annually to Israel and the many other forms of aid the U.S. provides. Israel allows some aid to go through, but it's not nearly enough and it's not Israel's right to decide what Palestinians can and cannot receive.
I second what willistontownsc and afadel write. Cynthia McKinney was my Congresswoman for a short time. She represented my interests better than anyone from J. Roy Rowland through John Barrow have done including Charlie Norwood and Max Burns. Israel's treatment of Gazans is nothing short of repressive. I support Cynthia McKinney and others' efforts to break the Israeli embargo on Gaza. Amnesty International and other human rights organizations have condemned Israel's war on Gaza in Dec 2008 and Jan 2009 while George W. Bush was still in office.
