The Aiken County Sheriffs Office is blaming arson for an early morning fire at Rocksville Baptist Church, 660 Pine Street, Warrenville.
According to a press statement, neighbors heard the church alarm go off about 6 a.m. and saw smoke.
The Langley Fire Department responded quickly, and sheriffs investigators were able to determine the fire was arson.
Damage to the church was moderate as a result of smoke and heat.
According to the press statement, sheriffs investigators do not believe the arson to be the result of a hate crime, but have an active ongoing criminal investigation.
