COLUMBIA — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's deal to write a book on fiscal conservatism has been terminated amid revelations about his affair with a woman from Argentina.

Publisher Adrian Zackheim said today that Sentinel had agreed to release Sanford from his contract.

Zackheim called the agreement "a mutual decision." Sanford's spokesman declined to comment.

Zackheim says the book, titled "Within Our Means," had been scheduled for publication in March 2010. Sentinel is a dedicated conservative imprint within Penguin Group (USA) Inc.
