Former Augusta State All-American center Garret Siler is getting his chance to play with an NBA team. Siler, who was not selected in last week's NBA Draft, will play for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League.
The Timberwolves will play five games, beginning July 12 at the COX Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The schedule ends July 19.
At 7-foot, 278 pounds, Siler is one of two centers on the 12-man roster.
"My agent just said Minnesota is really looking at me and really wanted me on their summer league team," Siler said. "I'm just trying to use the opportunity to show myself off."
The good news, he gets a chance to showcase his skill to an NBA team. The bad news? It's the Timberwolves one of the worst managed teams in the NBA.
If he makes the roster, he will be the second Augustan to play for them. Anyone remember the other one?
william avery - right? - best wishes to siler - go jags!
nice coco. let's just hope siler's career turns out better than avery's. Give em hell, garret!
He's got a soft touch and he is coachable so he has a shot. The fact that he is 7 feet tall also helps.
Congrats, Garret! Do us proud!
William Avery
I went to school with him and graduated the year that he and Ricky Moore led Westside to the state AAA championship
Yep, you guys are right. It is William Avery. You know how Garret would get in foul trouble in college a good bit? Maybe he will be more suited to the NBA where things are more physical.
