A tractor trailer hauling hogs overturned late Wednesday near Pollards Corner in Columbia County, killing several of the animals but leaving the driver uninjured, according to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Steve Morris.

An unknown number of pigs escaped after the 10:30 p.m. accident and authorities spent the rest of the night recapturing them and cleaning up after the wreck.

“Personnel from the sheriff’s office, fire department and Animal Control were on the scene for much of the night,” he said. “In fact, we didn’t clear up until 8 this morning.”
