BOSTON – Former Augusta State star Shannon Wilkerson has signed with the Boston Red Sox.

The team announced the deal Wednesday, along with first-round draft pick Reymond Fuentes. Fuentes, who played for Fernando Callejo High School in Puerto Rico, was assigned to the Gulf Coast Red Sox of the Rookie League in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Red Sox also agreed to terms with four college players – outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker from Ball State (a fourth-round pick), outfielder Wilkerson (eighth), catcher Michael Thomas from Southern University A&M (12th), and first baseman Chris McGuiness from The Citadel (13th).

Sixteen of the team’s 50 draft choices this year are under contract.
