The Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce has been ranked in the top 10 nationally for membership retention in 2008.

The American Chamber of Commerce Executives awarded the local chamber with a Membership Achievement Award for its accomplishments in the $900,001 to $2 million total revenue category, according to a letter from the organization.

The local chamber completed a survey and was selected from 354 chambers nationwide, said Sue Parr, the president of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re very excited. This is not a first for me in the business, but it is a first for me at the Augusta Metro Chamber,” Ms. Parr said. “It’s a great testament to our business community in that they’re staying active and staying involved even in a difficult economy.”

Ms. Parr said the chamber participates to measure itself against other chambers to make sure it is "performing at or better than other chambers.” The survey measures overall growth and stability, internal operations and efficiency, financial performance and customer satisfaction.

ACCE is the largest chamber organization in the United States, she said.
