A former Richmond County sheriff’s deputy who was found not guilty of child molestation less than three weeks ago was killed in a car accident this morning.

Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said Lindon Haworth Jr., 49, was driving northbound on Mike Padgett Highway when his car drifted into the passing lane and struck the side of another vehicle. Mr. Haworth lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a deep culvert on the side of the road, where the vehicle flipped over onto the driver’s side.

Mr. Haworth was pronounced dead at the scene of head injuries, Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said.

Mr. Haworth was fired from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in June 2008 after he was accused of kissing a 14 year-old girl on the mouth in June 2007.

Mr. Haworth was acquitted of the charge on June 12.

Accused of a crime, fired for it and then aquitted. That is totaly backwards. So much for innocent until proven guilty. He was put through hell and now the accusers will have to answer for it one day.

Mr. Haworth, from what I have

Mr. Haworth, from what I have been told was an honorable man. He was on his way to Church Sunday when the Lord called him Home. Church as well as Family members were worried when he did not show up for Sunday School or Church Sunday. Praise the Lord the accident was cleared when his son was on the way to his home to check on him. I only wish that the call could have came at a time when the son was not driving. The family has been through alot in the past few months/year. As 1677 stated "Accused of a crime, fired for it and then aquitted. That is totaly backwards. So much for innocent until proven guilty." I do know that these "Trials and Tribulations" have brought this family closer together. The Love on another. That and the love of God will guide them through this dark period. I only pray that ALL of of the family can see this. My thoughs and prayers are with the Family as they mourn the loss of a Father and Friend.

My cousin was married to Mr.

My cousin was married to Mr. Haworth's son and my heart goes out to his family. The Haworth's have been through to much in the past 2 yrs. It's just not fair. To everyone who can only think of what he was aquitted for, you should be ashamed. He was always innicent. He was a good man and may he rest in peace.
