Despite eased state outdoor watering restrictions, Grovetown residents soon will return to citywide watering restrictions because of low city water supply.

The state Environmental Protection Division reverted this month to a non-drought outdoor watering schedule for the first time since 2006. Utility officials eased water restrictions June 10, allowing residents to water any time of day on certain days, based on their addresses.

Grovetown Public Works Director Mike Woods said the city has experienced a low supply of water since the restrictions were eased.

“They lifted the ban and everybody is watering whenever they want,” Mr. Woods said. “Until we get those new water lines and new tank, we’re going to have to tighten everybody up.”

The city experienced similar problems last summer during drought conditions.

City officials already have approved new water lines and a water tank to increase supply. Construction is expected to start in the fall.

Starting Monday, Grovetown residents will be allowed to water outdoors according to the previous drought schedule.

Residents with even-numbered address will be allowed to water outdoors between midnight and 10 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Those with odd-numbered address can water between midnight and 10 a.m. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. No outdoor watering is allowed on Monday.

Mr. Woods said enforcement of the restrictions will start Monday.
