Police have asked the public for help today after an older man reported being beaten and robbed in a Walton Way fast-food restaurant restroom.
The 68-year-old Augusta man said he was beaten and robbed in the Burger King on Walton Way Tuesday afternoon.
He told police a man approached from behind in the restroom and began punching him in the back of the head, according to a Richmond County sheriff's report. The victim pleaded with the assailant to stop and handed him $20 from his wallet, the report said.
The victim said the man turned to leave but began beating him again.
The suspect is described as a short black male between 150-155 pounds, wearing a white shirt with a black horizontal stripe, black shorts, a black and white ball cap and black sneakers.
Anyone with information on this suspect should contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Division at(706)821-1055.
Something needs to be done there.People hang out there asking for money & cigs. Some of them smell of alcohol. They tell you their hungry, but will turn down you buying them a hamburger. They want the money for alcohol.I even had one man to come up to the passenger window of my daughter's vehicle and knock on the window for money,we were in the drive thru.Kroger on 15 street is another bad place. Can't the people of the business make them leave?

Concealed carry permit = thug feasting on hospital/jail food.
Stop shopping at those places. If you hurt their business maybe they can help get rid of these people. That whole area of Walton Way and 15th St has become a cesspool.
This story almost included some details like a description of the robber.
So what did the perp look like? How do we know who to watch out for?
I have seen the same type of activity down the road at the McDonalds too. The panhandlers hang out in some of these fast food joints drinking coffee and looking for somebody to approach for a handout. The fast food joints allow the panhandlers to stay because they are legal customers having purchased that cup of coffee. I have been approached by these beggers at the McDonalds and the Krystals on Walton Way and I try to avoid these places. Eventually somebody is going to get aggressive like this guy did in Burger King. The management of these fast food places need to be more aware of these panhandlers hanging out and bothering legitimate customers. And, LOCK the restroom door behind you when you have to use one of those nasty fast food roach infested rooms in a fast food joint.
Everybody already knows what the description will be. The same one that's given in about 94% of all the other crimes committed in this area.
the suspect will have the same description as all the rest of these crimes...but we can't talk about it...so we will never correct the situation...

I must say that I do the same thing that you did.If somone is looking for food, I would pay for a meal BUT in now way give them money. My money will not go for drugs, and beer.
Play elevator classical music like the Hardee's did years ago and nobody tends to hang around.
I was at Zaxby's on Walton Way recently and had 2 people approach me for money on my way in to the restaurant and coming out. Pretty bad when you can't even walk to or from your car without getting hit up for money.
Insert standard description. Shoot on sight. The cops are incapable of protecting us. Carry a gun and do it yourself. These "people" are predators and should be put down like a dangerous wild animal. Trap and release doesn't work. Only dead works.
Person mugged in a Sears restroom. Person mugged in an MCG restroom. Person mugged in a Burger King restroom. To be safe, you'd better make sure that you 'go' before you leave home!
I don't stop at any of the fast food places on Walton Way. Not only do you have the beggars and criminals there, but most of the workers don't look clean, the place is normally dirty and the restrooms are filthy.
Put security cameras in the restrooms including the restrooms in the schools!
My husband, who works at a restaurant on Walton Way, does not hold back. Just as fast as they walk into the parking lot he runs them off or calls the cop. He receives so many death threats from the homeless guys on Walton Way, I am sacred one day one of the thugy kids or "homeless" guy will come through. He is trying so hard to get off Walton Way.
Crime in Augusta is just getting out of hand.
Hillguy, not enough carry permits and dead perps.
There is a person who stands at the exit from Walmart, the driving exit, with a sign. I went inside and purchased a meal for him from Blimpie but he was already gone when I got back. This sign holding thing was everywhere a few years ago but had somewhat subsided, but now it's back again. When that happens you should immediately go to the manager of the business and inform him/her of what is happening on their property. Criminal trespass is punishable by up to 1 year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. When going into a public restroom ALWAYS be aware of anyone else who is in there with you and if you don't feel comfortable, leave, tell management, and don't go back unless and until that person has left. Ask those who USED to be @ Regency Mall about being intimidated by those bent on causing trouble - The economy is certainly an excuse for a lot of things but if a person is truly hungry he/she will accept a meal instead of cash which will probably be spent on alcohol or drugs. By the way, often an individual will only ask for a small amount of cash but when they get it from enough people they can then purchase the drugs or alcohol.
Greenjacket, rest rooms are ONE place that security cameras are not allowed and with good reason. Nope that's not a good idea. Maybe on the doorway so that anyone entering or leaving can later be identified but not in the restroom. Would YOU like to use a public restroom with the thought that your video might someday appear on some website that you don't like?
All of these people who ask for money in an intimidating manner should be arrested for attempted strong-armed robbery. Ought to be the law and our police should hassle these folks every time they seem them. They should be checked for ID, run for warrants, and made to move on every day. If you are in a business that has these people hanging around, inform the manager that you are not coming back until they take out the trash. If you are attacked or strong-armed inside a business while using their facilities or in their parking lot, SUE THEM. It is their responsibility to keep their place of business safe for the customer.
To clarify things, this gentleman is a good friend of mine and I have known him for over 12 years. He goes out daily sharing the Gospel with everyone that he meets. So, this was not a case of a homeless, hungry, or panhandling person seeking money. Anyone who is familiar with this gentleman knows that he would be willing to buy food for anyone who'd asked. This was a robbery.
I spoke to him this afternoon and he said that he was not seriously injured during the robbery and was a little sore from a few bumps and bruises. He said the BK's staff were very caring and concerned. They did everything they could to help him. There were surveillance tapes and at least one person who got a good description of the attacker. However one of the lenses in his glasses was knocked out. A RCSO deputy took him to a nearby optometrist who fixed his glasses while he waited. Although he had just been beaten, he continued sharing the Gospel with others in the waiting room. He is an amazing man!
Anotherlook, I don't think anybody has confused the victim with the thug. I wish your friend a speedy recovery.
No, I didn't think that. I was noting that the robber was not someone seeking help or assistance. It appeared that some of the posters here thought that the robber may have been overly aggressive in asking for money, when in fact the robber began beating my friend without a single word or any type of provocation.
CoastalDawg - evidently you've never been to a restroom in Europe. When I was in Krakow, Poland, you had to pay to pee. Right there where the urinals were, a lady was behind a little stand type thing, and I had to pay her 4 Polish slottys - about a $1 to use the public restroom. I did my business with her watching and thought - "Hey lady, if you don't mind, then I don't because I got to go!
I had a panhandler at the McDonalds on Wrightsboro Road ask me for money while I was waiting in line. The manager overheard the converstation and asked the panhandler to leave. I was prepared to zap him with my tazzer. I everybody should carry one for their own protection. It's not against the law.

I'm praying that this robber thug will hear the gospel and repent. This city needs a revival. Lord Jesus come!
Put the cameras at the doorway so you can get their faces when they come out of the bathroom or entering to the hallway to the bathroom.. that will act as a deterrant most of the time and give privacy in the bath stalls. However I am one for locking the door when I go in so I don't have to worry who is coming in....
