Mom of 555-pound teen freed

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A mother accused of neglecting her 555-pound son's health has been released on bond.

Television station WYFF reported today that Jerri Gray is no longer being held at the Greenville County jail. She was arrested on a charge of violating a custody order last month when she did not appear in court.

Police found Gray and her 14-year-old son at a laundry in a Baltimore suburb.

Since then, community members and businesses have stepped in to help the woman and her son.

WYFF reports that attorneys aren't charging Ms. Gray for legal work and a Greenville car dealer towed her van back from Baltimore.

Ms. Gray's attorneys, Kim and Grant Varner, could not be immediately reached for comment.

It's nice to read that people

It's nice to read that people are helping this family instead of persecuting the mother.

There is no sense in someone

There is no sense in someone weighing that much. Especially a child. I feel sorry for the boy, I'm sure he is taunted a lot by his peers. Hopefully someone will step in and get this boy some help losing the weight.

Taunted by his peers,.... I

Taunted by his peers,.... I would assume this kid never left the house. I see some of these Tru Life shows on TV when the kid is 600 plus pounds and cannot leave the house. They grow having a dependency on the mother who usually isn't mentally tough enough to do what is required to get the life style back on track. But JGC0215, I totally agree. They need support from the people!
