School officials say they won't be able to help everyone who needs money.
University of South Carolina financial aid director Ed Miller says applications are up about 15 percent from the same time last year. Winthrop University officials say financial aid applications are up 17 percent.
College of Charleston financial aid director Don Griggs says aid applications are up by one-fourth.
Clemson University's Elizabeth Milam says the school has not seen a significant increase in applications, but she says there's been about a 30 percent increase in requests for extra help.
