A single-vehicle crash Sunday night killed a 54-year-old Allendale, S.C., woman.
According to a statement released by Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Vicki Gregory Welch was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ms. Welch was the unrestrained driver of a 2003 Chevy S-10 Blazer that was traveling east on Colbert Bridge Road near Aiken. Ms. Welch left the roadway, struck a culvert, overturned several times and was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire, Mr. Carlton said.
The crash happened at 8:20 p.m. There were no passengers in Ms. Welch's vehicle. This crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
This is the 19th fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
Unrestrained! Had she been restrained she'd probably have survived the wreck to experience the fire. Or, had she not left the road and hit the culvert she'd never have been in the paper. I appreciate the staff not blaming the fatality on the seat belt. As is almost always the case, "inattentive driving" seems to be at fault, again.
OR, she might have climbed out and "experienced" it from a safe distance.
PT you must have a warped sense of a need to comment, whenever there is an accident.Spare us the commentary about how you feel that there is no such thing as an accident and your feeling that seat belts does not save lives.
Today's idiotic comment was courtesy of patriciathomas.
There is something wrong in Aiken County. There have been too many accidents with fatalities. Is it the roads????
No, it's the drivers.
Today's 2nd idiotic comment was courtesy of KSL.
PT, did you see the wreck? For all we know a deer could have ran out in front of her... So many assumptions. Prayers to the family.
Wrong gnumbqnuts! Roads don't kill people, drivers do.
True-gent, regardless of where they're from...
PT is just trying to get a rise out of everyone as usual.......no one can be that heartless....and accidents are not always caused by a driver, are you saying KSL that if a deer comes straight out into you and there is no time to avoid it that the drivers fault, come on now.
AS USUAL, PT is a moron, has nothing positive to say, thinks she knows it ALL....same crap, different day. PT get a life !!!
For all we know a stray Patricia Thomas could have ran out in front of the road and caused the accident.
For those of you so quick to judge, you have no idea what happened nor do you know the person this happened to.
I can not believe the comments allowed on this story and it disturbs me that the family of Vicki will read these and see how heartless and cruel some of you are. For those of you who reacted to the comments...you gave them just what they were seeking. Sad. You should be ashamed. This is no time to make jokes on someone's tradgedy. Allow the family to grieve and deal with this sudden loss of their loved one.
Vicki was a wonderful, hard working person who lived for her family, her children and her grand children. She will be missed by many and she truly deserves better than this drivel that is on here. Rest in Peace Vicki. God Bless.
